Neck Pain

Home > Neck Pain

Pain in the neck is a common medical condition that affects a large number of people all around the world. Postural problems and craning the neck forward while sitting in front of a computer or watching television are needless to say, some of the biggest reasons to experience this condition. It is a habit that’s tough to change because of lack of awareness and negligence. The fine balance of the nerves, muscles, and joints in the neck is thereby disturbed causing strain and irritation.

Did you know that the tension in the neck and shoulder muscles doubles with every 2-3 cm of your head moving forward?

People experience neck pain due to a number of reasons. It can be related to problems with any of the tissues in the neck, or probably degenerative disc diseases like neck strain, osteoarthritis, spinal stenosis, cervical spondylosis, an injury like whiplash, a herniated disc, or a pinched nerve.

Problems with the neck can cause severe headache, shoulder pain, Jaw Pain or TMJ, pins and needles in hands, carpal tunnel syndrome, and upper back pain. One out of every 10 Australians experiences this condition. Mount Isa Physio has expert physiotherapists and techniques to treat all the aforementioned conditions. Even if there are conditions that haven’t been successfully diagnosed by doctors outside, our clinic can help in providing either a permanent solution or the right directions to proceed in future consultations to rightly ascertain the reason of the pain.

How Do You Know When to Consult a Physiotherapist?

  • Pain is experienced in the neck first thing in the morning
  • Stiffness or pain, while trying to turn the neck
  • Snap/ clicking sound while turning the neck sideways
  • Constantly aching neck muscles

How is Neck Pain Treated?

There are effective treatments for neck pain in physiotherapy. Physiotherapists at Mount Isa Physio do a comprehensive examination of the patient’s neurological and orthopedic records first. The medical experts will recommend a course of treatment only after making a thorough study of the nature of the pain along with the patients’ medical history. The aim will be to reduce pressure, alleviate pain, restore movement, and prevent the recurrence of the condition in the future.
