Mount Isa Physio extends its expert services to all localities nearby and around. Back pain is common among people of all age groups, barring teenagers and youngsters. Around 80% of the population experience back pain at some point in their lives. It is common but also dangerous. Some patients recover from back pain in about 6 weeks, but for some others, it could only be a precursor to chronic back pain, which can disturb all other functionalities of the body in the future.
What causes lower back pain?
Back pain is a result of poor functioning of the bones, joints, and ligaments in the posterior region of the human body. The irritating effect can be caused by vertebral dysfunction, which happens when the nerve structures in your lower back are compressed and disturbed by the spinal vertebrae.
Reasons for lower back pain are aplenty. This includes inflammatory arthritis (like ankylosis spondylitis, Rheumatoid arthritis, etc.) and osteoporosis fractures. Less common, but more serious reasons for back pain include spinal cord compression and cancerous diseases like prostate and lung cancer.
How do You Assess Back Pain?
Diagnosing the reason is the first and most important part of the treatment. To assess the back pain, a physiotherapist will perform a thorough examination of the patient’s medical records along with orthopedic and neurological check-ups. X-rays and Digital scans are also recommended at times to zero in on the exact cause of the pain.
Dangers if Left Untreated
The lower back pain can be a big trouble-maker. Prolonged rest might not help in managing the pain on a long-term basis. Disc injuries are one among the many dangers in the offing. Lower back pain can result in cardiopulmonary deconditioning, decrease in bone density, and increased risk of blood clots. Moreover, back pain can be caused by a serious pathology that if left untreated, can lead to dire medical consequences.
Treatment
Physiotherapy of lower back pain mainly focuses on restoring the functionality of spinal joints that have poor movements, reducing muscle tensions and increasing its strength. The pain will subside, movement of the spinal joints will be much better, and nerve irritation reduced. With the right physiotherapy, back pain can be treated well.
Not all treatments are alike at Mount Isa Physio. Various methods are used based on different conditions in people. Spinal and soft tissue mobilization, core stabilization advices, strengthening exercises, stretching and heat/cold therapy are some of the methods tailored to suit specific requirements.
